Frequently Asked Questions
- Why is this artwork important?
-
Communities with beautiful outdoor art are more desirable to live and work in.
This sculpture walk will transform a now empty property into something beautiful, and an asset to the entire community.
It will make the trail more inviting, so visitors are more likely to spend time, shop, or stop for coffee at local businesses nearby.
Outdoor art is possibly the least expensive capital improvement project, and the impact and upgrade can be substantial.
This outdoor art will require little maintenance and will last many, many years.
- What are some of the features of the outdoor art?
-
Outdoor sculptures can be metal, concrete, wood or any other durable material. We anticipate starting with metal sculptures 5 to 10 feet tall.
- When will the Sculpture walk be completed?
-
Very soon
- Who is behind this project?
-
The project is being initiated by local artist Barbara Nelson, and has already received the support of local organizations, artists, and business people.
We hope the YOU will get behind the project with us!
- Who is making money on this?
-
The Granite Creek Trail Art Project is an Arizona non-profit and the IRS has transferred 501c3 status from the Mural Project to the Art Project - we have the same mission - Creating outdoor art for public benefit. There will likely be installation costs, maintenance and repair, as well as minor administrative expenses such as running this website and printing costs.
Fundraising will go directly toward the expenses in creating the Sculpture walk.
This large scale art project will positively impact the success of the community and businesses in the downtown area as more and more people come to enjoy the trail between the two murals.
- Who are the sculptors?
-
Marcella (wife of deceased David) Hirschy
Jonathan Decker
Gene Galazan
We hope to list many sculptors here in the future.
- Where will the sculptures be?

Hirschy/Decker:
We hope to locate the Hirschy sculptures north of the Mural on the Granite Creek Trail east of Sam Hill Alley.
And we are looking for a good location for Jonathan Decker's work.
